Before you ask, it’s a line from a cadence we do here. I’ve been at Ft. Sam Houston, TX for about 2 months now. It’s gotten a lot better now that I’m out of reception and into my actual medical training. Those first 3 weeks of reception were hell though. It was a lot of waiting around and watching movies. You might think this sounds pretty good(like i did at first), but after you watch the entire first season of Pushing Daisies on dvd, along with 3 movies and read two books, you come to realize how much of a killer down time is. If not for the fact that i was working out on my own, there’s almost no way I would have passed my first PT test here.
Now that I’ve phased, though, I can go off post during nights and weekends. San Antonio is a pretty scenic city. The river walk is nice. I’ve only been downtown, but it seems like there’s plenty to do. I’m probably going to go hit a few bars up after I post this. There’s a Coyote Ugly in town, and it reminds me of Courtney. I think I’ll go there for old times’ sake.
My 21st birthday was as decent of a birthday as one can hope to have on a military installation. I bought a six pack of Heinekin and also had myself a gin and tonic. Drinking and homework do not mix well. I didn’t really have the attention span for it, so it was done poorly. I don’t mind though, because I still got a 92% on the test, and that’s the only grade that matters. I’m still rocking a 91% gpa, which is good enough for me. We only have two tests left before I take my NREMT test, so things are getting pretty close to moving to our next step in training. The time here is actually going pretty fast, mostly because we are in class for so long every day. We start at 0830 and get released at 1700. talk about a lot of hours. It could always be worse though…
Other than that, not much new has been happening with me. I tried to quit smoking, but that didn’t last too long. This place is too stressful for me to try and quit now. It’s a shitty excuse, I know, but it’s also the truth. Hopefully this was informative enough for all of you. If not, it really is all that’s been happening with me lately. I haven’t gotten anything on where I might get stationed yet, but I’ll be sure to pass the word along as soon as I get it.
